The Joy of New Exercise Equipment

Since I was young, I've always been competitive and active. On the school playground, I always had to be the best when we played tag or dodgeball. In high school, I was captain of the track team. From being involved with a lot of sports, one of my greatest joys has always been getting new exercise equipment.

I can still remember the first time I got New Balance exercise gear in school. Those shoes were terrible, but that's all I could afford at the time. Although I would have loved to have had one of the popular brands, like Nike or Reebok, it still made me feel good that I had new running shoes. The next piece of new exercise clothing I got was my jersey when I made the team, and I can't remember a happier moment.

Now that I'm older, my activities and exercise program have changed. The new fitness equipment I buy today is not used for playing a specific game, but rather for keeping me in shape. The other day, for instance, I bought some new weight lifting equipment. I was using a Bow Flex machine for a while, but I never got around to purchasing a decent set of free weights. So when I finally saved the money and got the new exercise equipment, you can bet I locked myself in my gym for a week. Every chance I got I was working out and enjoying my new stuff!

My wife always makes fun of my obsession with new exercise equipment, but she has her own interests too of course. While I like to spend my time getting fit, she likes to paint art. When I buy new exercise equipment she may give me heck, but it bugs me just as much when she spends days obsessing over some paint brush she wants, and after buying it, spending a week "getting to know it".

Through our interests have understand each other better. Art never appealed to me, but I understand how much she likes it, because it relates to her own interests. As exercising is a stress reliever for me, making art is a stress reliever for her. As I get excited over new exercise equipment, she gets excited over new painting supplies.
